Just wanted to make a comment about the new library. I just received the P.R. New library facts card in the mail. I haven't made a comment before and felt it was time. I am so happy that we are building a new library, the location that has been chosen is awesome and I am very happy that you sent out the fact sheet on the library. I am looking forward to seeing our new library soon!

I would like to say how pleasant and helpful the front desk people are every time I come into the library. The fresh flowers and plants add to the friendly atmosphere.

It would be much easier to find books by author if the books were all sorted by author rather than category and then author as some authors write in a number of genres and they are all over the library and you spend so much time trying to figure out what genre someone has deemed the book to be. Alphabetical by author - it's there or not in stock and we place an order for it.
Powell River Public Library Reply:
Ah, the vexations of shelf order. Librarians have been debating this for as long as there have been librarians. You're right! If we put all the books in order by author then everyone who wanted to find something by author could find it that way. The challenge, however, is that not everyone wants to find books that way. Many want to browse science fiction in a science fiction section and so on. Some very avante garde libraries have even taken to abandoning classification entirely and arranged their libraries like Chapter's Books. The arrangement we use is tried and true and works for most people. It works less well for cross-genre authors. Thanks for your comment. Charlie Kregel
