Deborah Turney Zagwyn Illustrations in Our Children's Room

Deb Zagwyn has been writing and illustrating children's books for many years; most of her works are in the Library.  Come see an exhibition of her illustrations in our Children's Room.  By the way, Deb is one of our own staff and she's also responsible for the artwork on the Kids's Page of our new website.

I want to say that the Powell River Library has been hiding a national treasure behind the front desk.I went into the childerns' room and looked at Deb's illustrations. I was so happy to see art work that featured the human figure and was imaginative and beautifully done. Her charactors go beyond illustation and enter into the realm of fine art. Each piece of work contained so much life and the little details were wonderful. I have looked at the paintings several times and I keep seeing new things or I notice how fine the technique is in a particular area of a picture. It is unfortunate that the paintings are hung so high and that the room is not a good exhibition space. Despite this major drawback, the work is strong enough to shine. As an artist I am happy to see Deb's talent displayed and to discover her genius as an illustator. Her modesty in view of the brilliance of her work is refreshing. I really love her work it shows not just talent but an open sweet sensitiviy to her subject. I bow to her imagination.
