Island Link Library Federation

Island Link Library Federation (ILLF) is a provincially funded regional federation which currently has 4 members.  We are one member along with Greater Victoria Public Library, Salt Spring Public Library and Alert Bay Public Library.  Here a just a few of their endeavours:

• Negotiating federation-wide buying of supplies which means we can often get a better price than we could on our own.
• Paying for some Library programs
• Providing some Library staff training
• Supporting special Library projects

Powell River Literacy Council

The Powell River Literacy Council is a provincially funded organization that promotes awareness of the importance of literacy and literacy issues in our community.  The Library is a member of the Council and supports the Council’s work.  One of our stated values is to “nurture literacy in our community through our regular services and through partnerships with community organizations.”  Our participation in The Powell River Literacy Council is one of the best examples of how we fulfill the promise in this value.

Texada Island Library

Texada Island Library is run by a dedicated group of volunteers independent from the Powell River Public Library to provide some special library services to residents of Texada Library.  It is located in the former Gillies Bay School at 2622 Gillies Bay Road.  It offers a collection of donated materials in a variety of formats supplemented by a special rotating block loan of books from the Powell River Public Library.  It provides free computer use with Internet access.  There is a childrens storytime on the last Friday of each month from 11:30 - Noon.

The Powell River Public Library provides full and complete regular Library services to residents of Texada Island same as for other residents of the Powell River Regional District except for Lasqueti Island. There is a book drop located at the Texada Island Inn, 1108 Gillies Bay Road in Van Anda where Texada residents can return their Library books.

In addition to the regular services we provide to Texada residents, the Powell River Public Library contributes to the Texada Volunteer Library by paying its rent and supplying a regular block loan of books.
