Here are some other great places to learn about everything that’s going on in Powell River.
Library Offers Travelling Storytimes
Did you know that we regularly travel around Powell River with a road show edition of our Storytime programs? Currently we visit many daycare centres and at least one Powell River Association for Community Living (PRACL) venue as well. This is the same high quality Storytime that parents take their children to at the Library.
If you want Storytime to come to you, please call Jeannette Jones, our Children Services Coordinator at 604-485-8625 or send her an email to jjones@powellriverlibrary.ca.
New Building Project
WANT EVEN MORE INFORMATION? CHECK OUT newlibrary.ca.
Crowded, musty space? We're finished with that. Impossibly hot premises on summer days? Gone. Too small collections bursting at the seams? The end. Inadequate program spaces? Nevermore. Is this really all there is to the kids’ section? No reason to ask that anymore. Line-ups for computers? Historical. Looking around for a comfortable, quiet place to just read a book? Found one, no problem. OK, so I got my wheelchair in the door but where do I go now? Anywhere you want!
We're going to get a new Library and all that will be in the past.
Seniors, Write Your Story!
Want to write and share your memories? Our free Memoir Writing for Seniors courses are just the ticket. Some seniors have already taken one of these great courses. Just click on a picture to read the stories they wrote.
Each group meets for two hours once a week for seven weeks. See the Seniors Events Calendar for specific
Story Time

Listen! Laugh! Read! Sing! Come to the Library’s preschool story time every Wednesday morning at 10:30. No reservation is necessary. All children must be accompanied by a caregiver. It’s loads of fun for everyone. Join us.
Book Clubs
It sounds kind of regimented and orderly, doesn’t it? But judging from animated discussions and the howls of laughter emanating from the corner table in the Library, our book clubs are anything but. You have two clubs to choose from, or choose both.
The Afternoon Book Club meets at the Library every third Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m.
The Evening Book Club meets at the Library every first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.
If you need to get a copy of this month’s book and the Library doesn’t have one available, please make your Interlibrary Loan request online or by contacting the Library.
See our Events Calendar for details of upcoming meetings.
Deborah Turney Zagwyn Illustrations in Our Children's Room
Deb Zagwyn has been writing and illustrating children's books for many years; most of her works are in the Library. Come see an exhibition of her illustrations in our Children's Room. By the way, Deb is one of our own staff and she's also responsible for the artwork on the Kids's Page of our new website.
Every Child Ready to Read Programs
Parents, Grandparents and Caregivers! If you have a child age 0 to 6, then the Library wants to help you get your child ready to read. From time to time we offer a short informative session called, Every Child Ready to Read. It covers everything you need to know to provide early literacy training so that your children can develop great literacy skills as they grow.

Parent-Child Mother Goose Program
From time to time we offer Parent-Child Mother Goose Programs through the Library. When we do we'll post information here and in our Events Calendar.
The Parent-Child Mother Goose Program® is a group experience for parents and their babies and young children which focuses on the pleasure and power of using rhymes, songs, and stories together. Parents gain skills and confidence which can enable them to create positive family patterns during their children's crucial early years, and give their children healthy early experiences with language and communication.

Staff Picks
Most of us at the Library are big readers, too. Every so often we tell you a few of our favourites and why in a publication called, Staff Picks. Library Assistant, Judy Steffens puts this all together for you. Copies may be viewed here or you can pick up a paper copy in the Library. All the books we pick are available in the Library, too.
Summer Reading Club
Every summer for as far back as anyone can remember there’s been the Summer Reading Club at the Library. And there will be another Summer Reading Club next summer! You’ll be able to read all about it on this website. As soon as we know the details, so will you.
Past Summer Reading Clubs featured books, games and crafts and special events for school age kids up to 12 years old. That’s a recipe that’s worked and we expect we’ll do it again even better next summer.
